For Utah artist, Polly Kennedy, growing up on a working ranch in Star Valley, Wyoming, provided ample inspiration for her ever increasing line of wood carvings. One of seven children, Polly says the days could be hard and long but they were always an adventure. The five boys and two girls each played an active role in all parts of running the ranch, from hauling hay to three day cattle drives moving the stock fifty miles into the mountains from their winter pastures to summer range.
In the evening, when the work was done, Polly's older brother, Steven, spent hours teaching Polly how to carve into a piece of wood with a pocket knife. The rest, as they say, is history. Polly's wood carvings are widely collected and continue to gain in popularity as she adds more shows and exhibits to her schedule every year.
Polly is married with two children, a son and a daughter. |
